This workshop–based course provides an overview of basic grammar, paragraph writing, and essay composition. Students are introduced to different types of writing, with particular emphasis on the research paper.

LNG185 — Basics of English Grammar and Syntax (3)

Students in this course will develop a clear understanding of the rudiments of English grammar and syntax as a base from which to understand the grammar and syntax of other languages. Programs designed to enable a person to learn a foreign language often present the grammar and syntax of that language in comparison to that of English; therefore, a solid base of understanding of the structure and conventions of English usage is necessary for effective understanding of other languages. Likewise, this course provides a base of understanding for those who seek to teach others proper English.
