LDR100 — Discipleship I (3)

Through a combination of class discussion and lecture, individual study, small group interaction and participation in four EDGE experiences, students will gain perspective and understanding of their ministry prospects, aptitudes, and interests, as well as enhance their personal spiritual development. Practical ministry formation opportunities provide an environment in which to discern God’s leading.

LDR101 — Discipleship II (3)

This is a continuation of Discipleship I: Through a combination of class discussion and lecture, individual study, small group interaction and participation in four EDGE experiences, students will gain perspective and understanding of their ministry prospects, aptitudes, and interests, as well as enhance their personal spiritual development. Practical ministry formation opportunities provide an environment in which to discern God’s leading.

LDR200 — Communication for Effective Leadership (3)

This course addresses how leaders sustain and implement vision through creative and systematic processes. Time will be spent on learning to communicate inter personally and publicly and examining the current use of technology, professional writing etc. Prerequisite: COM100

LDR252 — Theological Foundations for Global Leadership (3)

A comprehensive study of the nature and missionary intent of the church as it is progressively revealed in the Old and New Testaments. Emphasis is placed on enabling potential church leaders to solidify and grasp the biblical basis of missionary imperatives as they relate to intercultural world evangelization and church planting. Prerequisite: ICS150.

LDR300 — Leadership Strategies and Practices (3)

This course teaches students how to implement in their lives some of the leading strategies and practices vital to effective leadership. Time will be spent discussing effective practices in risk management, event management, time management and problem solving. Prerequisite: HTH274

LDR310 — Team Leadership Theories & Practices (3)

This course focuses on theories of healthy team development, personal and group dynamics and communication as a team. Time will be spent in understanding board governance and board development, and an how to function more effectively and efficiently as a team leader in navigating conflict situations. Prerequisite: HTH274

LDR320 — Coaching & Mentoring for Spiritual (& Professional)Development (3)

This course investigates the changing culture of leadership. It will focus on a developing a relationally based coaching and mentoring leadership style. Time will be spent on using coaching and mentoring tools. Prerequisite: HTH274

LDR400 — Issues in Current Leadership Practice (3)

Issues facing leaders are constantly changing. This course will examine the latest issues affecting leadership, some positive and some negative. Strategies for dealing with them effectively will be developed – using the positive to spring-board to greater leadership effectiveness and knowing how to minimize the effects of the negative so that ministry can continue to grow. Prerequisite: LDR300, 320 & 350

LDR401 — Issues in Current Global Leadership (3)

Leadership has long been an academic discussion according to a Western worldview and leadership paradigm. However, many of our leadership principles and strategies simply don’t work in a glocalized church community, let alone globalized urban environment. Recognizing the majority of the non-west world is now playing a more pivotal role in world mission and ministry, this course is designed to engage the student in their leadership principles, and recognition of practical local leadership changes that are now vital to church ministry success and survival. Prerequisite: LDR452, 453 & 454.

LDR411 — Communication to Youth (3)

This course teaches students how to give youth talks and run a small group. With practical coaching, it gives students an opportunity to practice delivering a message and developing small group Bible study curriculum. Prerequisite: COM100

LDR412 — Youth Leadership Foundations (3)

The study and assessment of the history and philosophy of student ministry in North America as a basis for doing healthy youth ministry today. Time is also spent discussing the effective elements, practices, philosophies and models of youth work. Prerequisite: HTH274

LDR413 — Youth Leadership Practices (3)

A course which has as its center the nuts and bolts leadership elements experienced in a day–to–day, church–based youth ministry. The course pays particular attention to risk management in youth ministry, team building among staff, creating staff job descriptions, building partnerships with parents and families, the use of appropriate planning processes and healthy budgeting practices. Prerequisite: HTH274

LDR414 — Adolescent Development & Counselling (3)

Based on a solid foundation of understanding the unique developmental issues and stages of adolescences and the pressures and struggles that young people face, this course will equip students with tools and strategies for helping adolescents successfully navigate this stage of life with a vibrant, personal faith. Prerequisite: HTH274

LDR419 — Youth Leadership Practicum (3)

All of the theory in the world does not make a person an effective leader. A full-year of ministry, at least part-time, with a seasoned youth leader as mentor will solidify the things learned in the classroom and field education experiences and extend the learning into the real-world of leadership. Normally taken in the last year.

LDR431 — Homiletics (3)

Homiletics is the study of sermon preparation and delivery. The student studies several types of sermons and develops skills in using principles of sermon preparation. The course includes video–taped evaluation of sermons preached. Prerequisite: COM100

LDR432 — Pastoral Leadership Foundations (3)

Effective ministry is grounded in sound theology. Thus, this course offers students the opportunity to engage in theological study and reflection that relates to several aspects of local church ministry: the nature and biblical mandate of the church, the pastoral role, communion, baptism, marriage, divine healing, etc. The course will explore various theological traditions with an aim to helping students shape a theological framework for future ministry. Prerequisite: HTH274

LDR433 — Pastoral Leadership Practices (3)

What are the specific actions that a pastor needs to take to be effective? This course provides practical understanding of how to lead a congregation or ministry effectively by working with people in vision development and casting, developing and working with volunteers, running meetings, budget development, and other administrative task critical to effective leadership. Prerequisite: HTH274

LDR434 — Pastoral Care (3)

This course deals with the role of the pastor as caregiver and facilitator of care ministry in the local church. Students will learn how to prepare for and conduct the ordinances/sacraments such as weddings, funerals, baptisms and/or dedications; deal with counseling requests; handle visitation needs all the while safeguarding one’s personal life. Prerequisite: HTH274

LDR439 — Pastoral Leadership Practicum (3)

LDR451 — Cross cultural Communication (3)

The purpose of the course is to introduce the students to the basic concepts of cross-cultural communication. The theoretical and the practical aspects of it will be looked at. Attention is given to the following: exploring the roots of cross of cross-cultural differences, developing an awareness and sensitivity of how communication is taking place, and developing a personalized approach to enable effective cross-cultural understanding and communication. Prerequisite: COM100

LDR453 — Global Leadership Practices (3)

Preparation for field placement is an essential component for developing well trained cross-cultural workers. To maximize the opportunity of working in a cross-cultural environment the candidates need to be prepared on a spiritual and a personal level. This course will allow them to explore the areas of spiritual disciplines, personal preparation, developing team dynamics, and skills for cross-cultural adaptation. The emphasis is on practical skills to enable the students to gain the most out of their cross-cultural experience. Prerequisite: HTH274

LDR454 — Cultural Intelligence Strategies (3)

Cultural Intelligence is more than just a fancy way of expressing cultural sensitivity. One can be culturally sensitive and yet still fail to be cross culturally effective. Simply knowing about other cultures, using language and understanding culturally dynamics will not guarantee cross cultural success. The science of CQ has been studies across over 50 countries and has proven to be the only Scientific Intelligence model that crosses cultures. This course will deepen the students understanding of Cultural Intelligence and develop methods and strategies for cultural intelligent ministry raising the chance of cross cultural effectiveness greatly. Prerequisite: HTH274

LDR459 — Global Leadership Practicum (3)

Each Global Leadership student will spend an extended period of time, at least 6 months, with a seasoned leader as mentor. The experience will allow the student to put into practice what has been learned in the classroom and previous field education experiences and extend the learning into the real-world of leadership. Normally taken in the final year.
