Continuing (Returning) Students

REGISTRATION STEPS:

  1. The student will receive a registration information package in the student mailbox in March of each year. The package will include timetables, program audits and applicable registration guidelines. 

  2. The student tentatively selects courses for the full academic year.

  3. The student makes an appointment with the designated Program Coordinator or Registrar as directed in the registration package to confirm course registration.

  4. A copy of the Student Registration Form will be issued to the student's mailbox or in person.

  5. The student submits a Completion of Registration form in person prior to the first day of classes of the fall semester (or the entering semester).  The form must be signed off by the Registrar’s Office (confirms registration), Finance Office (confirms payment in full) and Student Services Office (confirms photo ID/student card processed) before registration is considered complete.


GENERAL REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Students:

  • may register as full-time (minimum of 9 credit hours per semester) or part-time (1-8 credit hours per semester) status
  • must register in a minimum of 9 credit hours per semester to be eligible for student loans;
  • must register in a minimum of 15 credits per semester to complete a program in a designated time (eg. 4-year degree in 4 years)
  • may choose to extend the length of their programs and register in fewer hours each semester
  • will review requirements of the chosen RMC program
  • will choose 100 or 200 level courses for the first year (e.g. BBL100)
  • will take note of any pre-requisites to be met as outlined in the Course Descriptions 
  • will review fall, winter and/or spring course schedules to determine when courses are offered


SPECIFIC PROGRAM REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Diploma in Theatre Arts Students (Playhouse North):

  • do not participate in a registration process as the diploma curriculum is pre-determined by Playhouse North  

Degree, Diploma (except Theatre Arts) and Certificate Programs Students:

  • may register in MUS138 Choir & Orchestra as an elective upon successful completion of an audition -  for more information, contact the Music Department at music@rockymountaincollege.ca
  • may register in the required course LNG180 English Composition OR may choose to write an RMC English Composition Exemption Test at the beginning of the fall or winter semester if the student’s high school English 30-1 course (or equivalent) presents a minimum grade of 75%.  If passed successfully, students in The EDGE may replace LNG180 with an elective; students in other programs may replace LNG180 with LNG281 English Literature.  EDGE students who choose to replace LNG180 English Composition during the EDGE year and then apply to another RMC program upon completion of the EDGE program will be required to complete LNG281 English Literature.

Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (formerly Credit for Learning by Experience)

  • Students applying to receive credit for past, extensive, learning experience must complete an application for Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition and attach a portfolio of learning experiences.
  • PLAR credits are applied to a student transcript as experience transfer credit.


CHANGE OF REGISTRATION PROCESS

  • Students may make changes to course registration during the Change of Registration period during the first week of the semester.  A Change of Registration fee is applied. 
  • Courses dropped during the Change of Registration period do not appear on the student transcript.
  • Courses dropped after the Change of Registration period but before the deadline for course withdrawals will receive a Voluntary Withdrawal (‘VW’) grade. The Voluntary Withdrawal grade is not computed in the G.P.A. and carries no academic penalty.
  • Courses dropped after the course withdrawal deadline will receive an ‘F’ grade.
