Resolve
A Devotional from President Mike Swalm
The new year is often the time we create resolutions, things we want to accomplish in the coming year. But the idea of “resolutions” really doesn’t have the same seriousness it used to. A resolution is something that is resolved. And for me to resolve something carries a lot of weight. It means to declare something about which one has made a firm decision.
A true resolution is something that has had some significant deliberation, and then once it’s decided, it is declared or proclaimed. So often our new year’s resolutions are simply things we wish could happen. But being resolved on a course of action is far more serious.
Christians in the west today are often accused of being “wishy-washy” or unserious about their faith. But faith in Jesus is not something to which “wishy-washy” should ever be associated. Christians who follow Jesus are called to be resolved to that decision. We are supposed to be people for whom the life of Jesus is everything. It is a decision about which we deliberate, and then one that is declared far and wide. It is nothing short of all-encompassing.
What would it look like if the entire world was peopled with Christians for whom the declaration to follow Jesus was everything? If our workplaces and our schools and our churches were filled with disciples who were entirely devoted with everything they had and were to Jesus?
It is my hope and prayer that the work we do at Rocky Mountain College is drawing women and men closer to Jesus, leading them deeper into relationship with him, and building up their faith so that they might have the resolve to follow Jesus more closely.
God is at work in Canada, bringing a new resolve to the people of God to follow Jesus with our whole hearts, to lean on the power of the Holy Spirit, and to be the people God made us to be, bearing witness to His love and justice with great resolve. Let that be resolution worth making.

Wish you the best in 2026,
President Rev. Dr. Mike Swalm

Alumni Spotlight:
Michelle Thompson
Since graduating from Rocky Mountain College in 2004 with a BA in Religion - Biblical Studies major, I have continued serving in church leadership while building a Christ-centered family. What began as a one-year plan brought me from the U.S. to Canada, following in the footsteps of my parents who attended Mountain View College. Rocky Mountain College quickly became the place where I finished my degree and was deeply shaped by professors, mentors, and a strong Christian community.
God has since led me down many unexpected paths, yet His faithfulness has been constant. My husband and I continue to volunteer in church, and it has been a great joy to see my two oldest children now attending Ambrose University as they seek God’s direction for their lives. I am forever grateful for the spiritual foundation, leadership training, and lasting influence Rocky Mountain College has had on my life.
